Distinguished academic institutions in the world are the source of outstanding and the latest academic discoveries. Often, this excellence stems from the concrete inter-relationship among such institutions, especially those associated with the research/teaching staff. Thus, to enable AMDI to progress into a research and service environment that is conducive and advanced, a relationship with outstanding world institutions should be fostered. This process will be based on specific regional groupings.
Regional Groups
The location of AMDI at Bertam, Penang can be exploited within the context of co-operation with neighboring ASEAN countries especially those in the IMT-GT group, that is, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Such co-operation encompasses the development of knowledge through the educational network and the association of the latest medical services.
Developing World
As a leader in the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Malaysia has a unique relationship with the developing nations. Malaysia is seen as a model Islamic nation especially in the field of economy, science and technology. Education and Tourism are the two main sectors that have become the center of focus. AMDI’s unique position within the Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) has the potential to attract students to choose this institution as the center of education and tourism especially those related to “Health Tourism”. It is also hoped that the potential of AMDI’s contribution to economic growth will attract Middle-East investors, such as those from the Gulf States.
