Oncological Science Cluster, headed by Dr. Muhammad Kamil Sheikh Abdul Shakoor is one of the 11 cluster exist in AMDI. Oncology is an ever evolving field of Medicine with new modalities of treatment and diagnostic tools being developed rapidly in recent times. In Malaysia in general cancer treatment and research is in acute demand as there is lack of expertise. Oncology cluster AMDI aims to become a leader in cancer treatment and research in the country and the region. Oncological science means deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research in to the mechanism of cancer development and Oncological Science Cluster will be a focus of cancer research with a component of services to the community and with the development of most needed qualified manpower in cancer treatment and research the cluster will contribute significantly to health care in general and to the cancer research in particular, the areas of research are mostly concentrated on solid tumors.
Oncology cluster is a platform for the interaction of various other sister clusters which are relevant and interconnected i.e., Immunology, transfusion science and others. Cancer pathogenesis, immunology, diagnostic tools and novel therapeutics are fascinating areas of research. Cancer treatment and research is an area with vast potential for expansion both in the country and globally, most western countries are mobilizing resources for this deadly disease. AMDI can easily get international recognition if advancement made in right direction with a huge potential for international partners.
