The establishment of the Oral Science Cluster will play a significant role in the development of Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI) as dentistry is the embedded element of this cluster.
The official activities of the cluster commenced in 2005 with the establishment of the Oral Health Clinic. The pioneering staff consisted of 1 dental lecturer, 1 dental officer, a medical staff nurse and a dental technologist. The cluster was later joined by more dental lecturers, dental officers and support staff. The ongoing activities include oral health services and research. A new postgraduate program, MSc (Oral Science) was recently approved and the cluster hopes to introduce more academic programs in the future.
The objectives of this cluster are as follows:
- To conduct innovative research projects in oral science that are relevant to the community and industry.
- To produce competent and responsible oral science graduates whom are marketable to the industry.
- To provide state-of-the-art tertiary oral healthcare services that cater the needs of the the community and delivered through a holistic approach.
In order to achieve these objectives, the cluster plans to attract capable staff from various science fields to join the cluster and we also aspire to provide adequate facilities that will promote academic, research and service.
